Room to be
Here, we create.
Badly. Imperfectly. Surprisingly. Amazingly.
We create because the cost of keeping inside us what is meant to be out in the world is too great.
One insight that hit me really hard was that I could be endlessly fascinated by certain people, ideas and worlds outside myself, and yet have almost no interest in myself as an individual.
I liked to learn about people. To see beneath the surface. To read their minds and energy. To sense patterns, process complex streams of information and predict outcomes.
I could sit with someone’s silence for hours, notice the smallest shift in their mood, hold the contradictions and complexities of who they are and fall in love with the tiny, almost invisible details that makes them unique.
How I loved to discover their unique signature of being...
…but somehow, I realized, I didn’t know how to be curiously interested in myself in the same way.
I rarely asked myself:
What do I feel?
What do I need?
What makes me come alive?
What wants to be created through me?
Even when I turned inward, I was often trying to move beyond myself. I dedicated decades of my life to self-inquiry, to finding Truth or Self. I jumped over my weird neurodiverse being, to find the universal being. I am not saying this was wrong – discovering my true nature was priceless – but I am saying it was incomplete.
In fact, it was my Self-realization that gave me full permission to be human – imperfectly, weirdly, artistically myself.
But how does one begin to be curious about oneself?
Loving all of my parts was the goal, but I felt I couldn’t simply leap there. I had some serious trauma to work through. Some new programs to install, one of them being ”I’m curious and patient with myself.”
So I began with the gram of curiosity that I had.
Engaged my will to create spaces where I was with myself. And then listened. A minute, two, three minutes….sometimes an hour.
I listened and I let Sabina be who she was, moment by moment – not as a problem to solve, not as an identity to transcend, but as this strange, living, breathing, suffering, joyful…ever-changing human being.
This liquid painting that I am, here on Earth, in these ”interesting times”.
This is what Room to Be is really about: creating enough space to witness the painting of you as it unfolds.
We are sensorily awake – deeply sensitive, wildly imaginative, intuitive and emotionally attuned, intellectually surprising and revolutionarily embodied, perceptive beyond the obvious and endlessly creative.
And we are multidimensional, neurodiverse and creative beings.
There is so much life happening within us. To stop it is impossible. And when we suppress it or mask it, we get sick, anxious or depressed.
ROOM TO BE is a containing space for all of this life and creative juice inside us.
A space to discover our unique signature of being.
To listen.
To be curious about ourselves and each others.
To find that wave of creativity that wants to move through us.
To actually go out there and create. One small step at a time.
To support and inspire each other.
Are you curious about what makes you different?
Together, we explore questions such as:
- What comes naturally to me?
- What do I notice that others might miss?
- Where does my creativity come alive?
- What environments help me flourish?
- What does my mind need in order to feel free?
- What might I create if I stopped trying to be “normal”?
- How can my sensitivities become resources?
- What is my particular way of contributing to the world and its evolution?
Intention
ROOM TO BE is a space for:
Rest – short guided meditations that are made for minds that never stop. We work with the mind, we do not force it to stop thinking or imagining.
Belonging – human connection without the pressure to mask. Finding encouragement and inspiration in the group.
Discovery – curiosity about our own signature of being and the ways in which we experience the world; finding ways to express that uniqueness.
Creativity – discovering our inner creative force and finding ways in which we can express it.
Possibility – discovering what can be born when we are supported rather than corrected.
What becomes possible when we have room to be freely ourselves?
There is no single right way to participate.
You might sit in silence.
You might move.
You might draw.
You might write.
You might talk.
You might listen and work on your creative project.
PAUSE AND DISCOVER
We begin by connecting to the ground of being. We step out of the noise and expectations of oppressive societies.
Breath.
Stillness. Movement. Sensation.
Sensory contact. Feeling. Being.
What is happening beneath the surface?
We connect to all dimensions of ourselves – our thoughts, bodies, emotions, senses, memories, intuition, imagination and ways of seeing.
We discover our unique gifts and creative drive. We remember those secret dreams we had as children.
A whole inner world. And the creation that wants to come through us.
CONNECT
We share with the group. We voice our discoveries, our creative impulses and our blocks and fears about bringing them into reality. We find ideas and inspiration within the group.
CREATE
We identify one action toward creating what we want and we go out into the world and let our creativity spill out.
We make.
We experiment.
We play.
We imagine.
We write, draw, move, build, design, sound, perform or simply follow an idea wherever it leads.
The creative act becomes a way of translating our inner worlds into the outer world. A way we create a new world.
One expressed need at a time. One creative act at a time.
